A highlight from the first quarter, Mara Elephant Project Image Ambassador, and world-renowned photographer, Jeffrey Wu joined MEP’s drone pilots in the field to capture moments as they guided elephants out of community fences and monitored elephant herds.
“When I first came to Kenya, I wanted to capture these amazing moments of wildlife, but I reached a certain height where I began to care about the wildlife. I joined MEP to support conservation efforts in Kenya.”
MEP Ambassador Jeffrey Wu
The MEP education team hosted their first virtual classroom experience and connected with 32 students from Texas, USA, engaging them in MEP’s elephant conservation efforts. It was a great way to connect young minds with conservationists to encourage stewardship of our planet. Watch how the first session unfolded here and sign up for your very own session today.
During the first quarter, MEP launched new merchandise on Valentine’s Day, celebrated World Wildlife Day, International Women’s Day and the International Day of Forests.
In March, MEP had the pleasure of hosting donors from Global Wildlife Conservation (GWC) at our headquarters in Lemek Conservancy. Their visit highlighted MEP’s innovative work on the cattle mapper project, an initiative supporting Mara conservancies in determining their ecological carrying capacity to better balance the needs of both wildlife and livestock. With the potential for new funding, MEP is poised to scale this vital tool, dramatically reducing the time needed to count livestock and enabling more effective, data-driven land management across the ecosystem.
MEP had an overwhelming level of support in the first quarter. Thank you to everyone who started the year off right for us.
